Matty Draughter

Matty Draughter is an actor based in New Orleans, LA.  His modeling and photography work has been exhibited in Anchorage, AK and New Orleans, LA , alongside numerous published features in the LA Based Magazine, ColorBloc. 

 

A fully multidimensional artist, Matty pushes the bounds of filmmaking by creating poetic films in short formats. He wrote, produced, and directed his first poetic short, "After, Paris Is Burning," in 2019.  Since 2022, he’s intensively studied acting, training with Doug Spearman, and now Veleka Gray.

 

Matty made his debut as Larry in River & Rail Theatre, Co.’s Production of the Pulitzer Prize Winning Play, Fat Ham by James Ijames, directed by Mychael G. Chinn. He was recently cast as Carlos in Guilty?, a Web Series by the Veleka Gray Players.

 

As an explorer of the world, Matty has lived in San Francisco, Portland, Paris, Chicago, and Knoxville. In 2021, he created and hosts a podcast, the braid boy diaries, providing black men space to unpack blackness and masculinity through barbershop conversations about their hair. Trained in the art of poetry since childhood, his work has been published in the American Poetry Review and been awarded by Scholastic Young Arts & Writing.
